New information centre is praised

Bath’s new visitor information centre is the busiest in the country outside of London.

The centre, at Abbey Church Yard, was officially opened by tourism and heritage minister John Penrose and now includes the Bath Box Office and tourist information centre in one building.

Mr Penrose said: “Bath is a beautiful city that combines heritage and culture to attract thousands of people. Most foreign tourists who visit the UK have Bath on their list as a place that they want to see.

“The wonderful architecture combined with fascinating history, and range of cultural events makes it no surprise that the Bath tourist information centre is the second busiest in the country after London.

“The new centre is fantastic. It has all the information you could need under one roof and will really benefit tourists.

“Bath is one example of good tourism management, and the centre will make it easier for the thousands of people who visit the city every year to find what they are looking for.”

He also visited the fashion and sport exhibition at the Fashion Museum, and the Holburne Museum during his trip to the city.

Tourism contributes more than £357million to the economy in Bath and North East Somerset, and provides more than 8,000 jobs.

The new information centre is run by Bath Tourism Plus. Chief executive Nick Brooks-Sykes said: “This smart new facility is the face of tourism in Bath and now reflects the quality of what’s on offer in the city.”
