A famous face will be amongst Belfast locals celebrating the first anniversary of the rebuilt Lyric theatre; Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney. The Lyric will celebrate its first birthday with a packed programme of diverse events. World renowned poet Heaney will be addressing a sold out audience in a lecture entitled ‘Speak The Speech’.

Brave swimmers made a splash this New Year’s Day when they took a dip in the chilly winter waters at Ballycastle Beach and Portrush to raise money for the children’s charity CLIC Sargent. It was all a good cause but the courageous participants didn’t spend long in the water, even though the temperatures were much higher than last New Year.
Lonely Artist Takes To The Streets
An artist who got fed up and lonely in his studio decided to sit on the streets and paint market traders instead. Brian Ballard began painting the characters he saw in St George’s Market and has now become a regular fixture in the area. He gives the paintings to the traders when they are finished.
Superhero Fights Litter Laziness
A superhero is being flown into the city of Belfast to help beat littering, after a council survey found young people drop rubbish because they are too lazy to find a bin. The poll, conducted by Ipsos MORI on behalf of Belfast City Council, had surprising results. It found that 48 per cent of those surveyed said they dropped litter because of laziness. It found that 16-29-year-olds were the most likely people to drop litter (67 per cent), while the …
Sculpture will RISE
A giant piece of artwork is set to dominate the skyline in Belfast when it is completed in the summer. The RISE sculpture will be the biggest piece of artwork ever commissioned in Northern Ireland and will tower 37.5 metres – or 123 feet – above the city’s Broadway roundabout.
