Charlie the cat gets a wheelchair

Help for Charlie the cat, a moggie that suffers from a rare condition which means he cannot walk unaided, has just received some help from an unlikely source; Kirkham Prison. After wearing out the special mobility cart that was bought for him by Blackpool Gazette readers eight years ago, a new appeal was made by Christine Ashton, of St Anne’s Cat Rescue for a replacement.

Sign language lessons for firefighters

Firefighters have signed up to take part in a training course with a difference. 14 crew members based in Bispham have decided to take part in the free session that will be run by Fylde Coast British Sign Language (BSL) Centre volunteers. They are hoping that the classes will help them reassure deaf people involved in emergency situations.

Blackpool rolled out the ginger carpet to welcome bang tidy comedian Keith Lemon to Madame Tussauds to see himself immortalised in wax. The TV star came face to face with himself and hundreds of fans who wore Keith Lemon masks. His £150,000 double is now on display for all to see at the Blackpool Promenade.

Design ace Will in the running

A young artist has won the opportunity to have his unique design used on the t-shirts won by thousands of runners in the Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run. Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, who has showed his design expertise over the past five years with Illuminations and tableau designsfor Blackpool’s Promenade, picked the winning design from hundreds of entries.
