Warning….Easter eggs are addictive

I am not going to get any work done today! So beware, if you have got lots to achieve today, don’t read on…

Using the internet is part of my daily work, but for some reason I have only just discovered a web phenomenon known as Easter eggs.

There are hidden Easter eggs all over the internet for you to find using simple codes or a combination of keys.

Searching and finding them is really addictive and I am now planning to spend the rest of the day doing just that!

Programmers and designers have hidden the eggs, presumably for their own amusement.

Here are some of my favourites so far: Try typing tilt into Google and see what happens. Now try again with the phrase ‘do a barrel roll’.

Something called the Konami code is popular among programmers and can be used on lots of websites to reveal hidden eggs. Press these keys: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a on some of your favourite sites and see what pops up. Vogue.com is a good one to get you started.

Now type ‘use the force Luke’ into the You Tube search..or ‘beam me up Scotty’. Or you could type Atari breakout into Google images (although this one should come with an addiction warning).

This is like having April Fool’s Day every day of the week. I do love the fact that it brings a little smile to people’s faces as they sit at their desks – just as long as it doesn’t affect productivity too much…
