Dentists in Bolton may be surprised and shocked to hear that new research has revealed that nearly half of town’s children have dental decay.
One fifth of Bolton mothers have admitted that their children only brush their teeth once a day and one in seven mothers say their children have at least three fillings.
Almost half of the parents consulted in the study said that their find it stressful to get children aged between 2 and 12 to brush their teeth.
The research also stated that one in 50 mothers in Bolton have children with gum disease, which is traditionally seen as an adult condition. A fifth of the children had at least four fillings.
Dentist Tina Tanna said: “These results are shocking but not surprising. Dental decay is one of the most preventable diseases in the UK. Every mum knows how hard it is to get their kids to brush their teeth but these results show how important this really is.”
The research was carried out by the makers of Aquafresh.
