One couple have thought of a novel way of moving home – they are launching a competition with their house as the prize.
Graham King, 55, and Pamela Rutter, 56, of Cromwell Avenue, Bromley, were fed up with waiting for their house to sell on the market and decided to take matters into their own hands.
They are selling tickets at £30 a time, with their house as the prize. The tickets will be sold between January and June, but if less than 23,400 tickets are sold, a cash prize will be given to the winner instead.
Mr King said: “We’ve really struggled to sell the house because of the economic climate. We were getting a bit fed up with it all.
“I just thought to myself I need to make it happen, you can’t just sit and wait.
“And I like to be a bit different. I didn’t want to go down the traditional way of doing things so I did a bit of lateral thinking.
“I’m a pretty optimistic person though and I’ve got a few plans to get the idea out and about.”
The couple are displaying their four-bedroom house on a website, with shots of all the rooms for anyone interested in taking part. People also have to answer three questions about the local area for a chance of winning the house.
A similar competition was held in Devon in 2009, when a man won a house for a £25 ticket.
