Saturday college opens for all

Adults will be able to go back to college and learn new skills thanks to a new programme of Saturday courses.

Bromley College has opened its new Saturday College in an aim to offer courses in a wide range of subjects for those who work during the week.

Courses on offer will range from car maintenance, to hair and beauty and from comedy writing to animal first aid.

Vice principal Val West said: “We already run a wide range of courses – everything from A level studies and vocational skills, through to higher education and professional courses, but just Mondays to Fridays.

“By launching Saturday College we’re simply trying to make adult learning easier for people to access.

“The great thing about studying on a Saturday is, unlike during the week when there are well over a thousand people here, you’ll be able to park on-site, and even if you don’t drive, a number of buses stop right outside.”

There will be about 50 courses for people to choose from and members of the public are being invited to give the college suggestions for courses that are not offered. Some of the courses are free and others are being offered with a 20% discount on fees

Local resident Alasdair Murray welcomed the news. He said: “I’ve often considered doing a comedy writing course, but until now, they’ve either been held during the week or up in London.

“Having a young family, the opportunity to study locally on a Saturday is ideal.”
