Khiri George, a lucky bride who won a £15,000 wedding was left “completely shocked” when she found out that she had won.
Khiri is marrying her childhood sweetheart Lewis Peters, and they were the lucky winners amongst other couples who were hoping to win the competition. The dream package that they have won includes dress, cake, a reception at a top hotel, and flowers.
The competition was launched in March and more than 91,000 entries were submitted.
Khiri said: “This will make a huge difference. We are saving for a house. It couldn’t have come at a better time.”
The couple, who are both 22, campaigned with friends and family to get them to vote for them, and even knocked on neighbours doors to try and get their support! Khiri made posters and leaflets and handed them out in local shops to try and get as many votes as possible.
Khiri works as a teaching assistant and Lewis is self employed, and the happy couple have been together since they were 14.
Lewis said: “I’m still in shock to be honest, it hasn’t sunk in yet. I feel like I’ve won the lottery.” They are both looking forward to their special day at the Bilbury Court Hotel.
The Echo’s promotions co-ordinator, Nigel Black who organised the competition said: “After finalising the counting, our winners prevailed and we are thrilled for Khiri and Lewis. We will be hosting a small presentation for the couple at Bibury Court Hotel, where they will wed on Monday, October 1, 2012.
“I would like to personally thank all our Win A Wedding contestants and hope we hear of your wedding plans.”
