Gist Ltd, a logistics company in Crewe, has won an award at the North West learndirect achievement awards.
The firm won the Large Company Award, which is sponsored by Irwin Mitchell, for their work pioneering learndirect training within their company. They have been recognised for their use of learndirect training to support business goals.
Gist, which is based on the Crewe Industrial Estate, decided to offer staff training when they realised how the training could benefit the company and individuals.
The company’s vehicles travel a combined distance of 75 million miles a year, so training on fuel efficiency was incorporated into NVQs for staff, resulting in the firm already reducing emissions, lowering fuel usage and increasing profitability.
450 Gist employees have already benefitted from learndirect courses and have had the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications.
Alan Smith of Gist said: “There has been a real sense of pride in everyone who has achieved through the NVQ programme. We now have a waiting list of warehouse and transport personnel who want to take on learndirect courses for their continual professional development.”
