Organisers of music festival The Garden Party have announced they will feature headline acts from the national scene for the first time this year.
A spokesperson for the festival, which takes place on July 6 and 7, has named modern folk band Turin Brakes and rock band The Minutes as two of the acts that will be in the line-up for 2012.
It is the first time bands have been brought from outside the island to play at the event. In the past the line-up has been made up of home-grown talent from the Isle of Man.
The Garden Party, which is held in the Begoade Fields, Onchan, near Douglas, has been taking place since 2010.
Organisers said: “We are a small but ever-growing unique festival. Our mission is to give the public what they really want in a music festival and in doing so, promote the wonderful local talent we have here on the island, support local business and local charities.
“The dates of our event are always centred around the Island’s Tynwald celebrations and the name is actually a nod to the garden party that is held annually by the Island’s Lieutenant Governor, who is the Queen’s representative on the Isle of Man.”
The main headline acts have not yet been announced but other names confirmed include singer/songwriter Leddra Chapman, alternative Scottish band Yashin and Isle of Man rock band Swound!
The festival raises money for charity and last year’s event raised £12,000 for Naseem’s Manx Brain Tumour Charity.
