Couple holiday in a rickshaw

A couple who were looking for something a bit different for their annual holiday, decided to travel across India in a rickshaw. Bridget Dempsey, 32, and husband Gareth Turner, 30, from Barnsbury, spent two weeks travelling 3,980 kilometres across the country and raising more than £1,500 for charity at the same time.

Chance to enter the Magic Circle

Members of the public are being given a rare chance to enter the Magic Circle as part of a special fundraising event for a brave two-year-old. The evening is being organised to help raise funds for toddler Poppy Pickford, of Holloway, who was born with a very shortened right arm and no hand.

BAFTA star still lives in Hackney

BAFTA award-winning actor Adam Deacon says he loves East London and still lives on a Hackney housing estate despite his recent award. Adam, who was given the BAFTA for Rising Star in February, says he wants to carry on writing about the area he grew up in, despite his sudden rise to fame.

Dr Seuss is a popular choice

Dr Seuss characters were popular choices for children dressing up for world book day in Hackney. Many school pupils in the area chose to go to school as The Cat in the Hat, Thing One and Two and The Grinch for the event. Other popular choices were Willy Wonka, Where’s Wally and Winnie the Witch.

Swimming pool reopens

Residents can enjoy swimming again thanks to the reopening of their favourite sports centre. The Golden Lane Sport and Fitness Centre, on the Golden Lane Estate, has been given a major facelift. Fusion Lifestyle, a registered charity, has also taken over running the centre on behalf of the City of London Corporation.
