Ottershaw girl lands Billy Elliot role

A schoolgirl from Ottershaw is on her way to West End stardom with a starring role in the hit musical Billy Elliot. Scarlett Moore, who is only thirteen, has taken a great step in her bid to be a musical theatre star. Scarlett has been performing in musicals and pantomimes since she was eight, and is over the moon to now be playing the role of Margaret Gormley at the Victoria Palace Theatre in Elton John’s Billy Elliot.

Rare beetle seen on Bookham Common

A volunteer from the Natural History Museum found a rare beetle that has not been seen in Surrey for over fifty years. A new population of scarlet malachite beetles was found in Bookham Common during a field trip on National Trust land. It was an exciting discovery for the museum, which have recently launched the OPAL Bugs Count scheme which tries to get people to keep a look out for rare bugs.

Aspiring director Nathan gets taste of the high life

An aspiring film director was given a taste of his dream when he attended a premiere for his film in London… and he’s still only seven years old! Claygate local Nathan Kosbab attended a showing of his film ‘A Day at Chessington World of Adventures’ after entering LeapFrog’s Short Film Festival. Nathan’s film was one of only 10 films that were shown at the festival which was hosted by TV personality Dave Benson Phillips.

Residents gather for Moggy Pond clean-up

A community clean up took place around Bellfields and Slyfield which saw children and adults work together in the sunshine to combat the litter in the area.  The Moggy Pond, Bellfields’ Green, alleyways and walkways were all cleared up by a team of around twenty people. It is part of the Bellfields Green Space Project, which was set up by community-minded Paul Rockett who is a single father to Chelsea, 8, and Amber Louise, 6.

Godalming Food Festival plans under way

It’s going to be a busy summer in Goldalming as retailers are preparing themselves for July’s food festival. The first festival was held two years ago, and was a great success.
