Agoraphobic Woman Leaves Her House Thanks To Learning Scheme

A woman who was agoraphobic for 13 years can now enjoy days out with her family after taking part in an adult learning class. Melanie Turner, 39, from Hull, was afraid of the outside world before plucking up the courage to join a literacy class with Hull City Council’s Adult Education.

Olympic Star Plays Sport With Families

Olympian Jonathan Edwards CBE joined families at a “come and try it” sports event. The day was held at East Park and Woodford Leisure Centre in Hull as part of the city’s National Family Week activities. The event encourages families to take part in Olympic-related sport and health activities. The Olympic triple jump champion and world record holder took part in an archery session, a question and answer session with young people and a basketball session.

Schoolchildren Walk From Pub

A pub is encouraging school parents to use its car park in an aim to help children get fit. The Barham Hotel, in Barham Road, Hull, has started the scheme with its local Griffin Primary School to encourage more families to walk some of their journey to school. Hull Success For Strictly Star

Children in Hull were spun off their feet when Strictly Come Dancing star Brian Fortuna paid them a visit. The star appeared at a fundraising dance workshop in the city’s Fruit venue in aid of the Echoes Foundation.
