Pupils put on art exhibition

Young people from across the region showed off their art, design and music talents with a special exhibition in Kilmarnock’s art gallery. The Schools Art and Design Exhibition opened at The Dick Institute at the beginning of February and featured work from pupils of Auchinleck, Cumnock, Doon, Grange, James Hamilton, Kilmarnock, Loudoun, Stewarton and St Joseph’s academies and Park School. The opening ceremony included live music and a fashion show.

Students plan global success

Pupils have their eyes on international success after setting up their own business. The youngsters at Grange Academy, in Kilmarnock, are hoping for global success by selling products they have made themselves. The team have started by creating a miniature version of the Burns First Edition Printing Press, which they hope to sell all over the world using a website and a few intrepid travellers.

Makeover for car park sculpture

A car park sculpture in Kilmarnock will get a metal makeover after winning a national competition. The sculpture, which sits on top of the town’s Foregate car park, won the free makeover in the Brighten Scotland competition. The structure was up against nominations from all over Scotland for the top prize.

Giant flag for Killie fans

Kilmarnock football fans have clubbed together to buy a gigantic flag. The Killie supporters raised more than £1,500 for the huge 60ft x 30ft flag, which they will lay across empty seats at their team’s games. The flag was bought after lifelong Killie supporter Michael Higgins, known as Higgy, launched an appeal on the fans’ forum of the club’s website.

Ice cream fun day for Dylan

An ice cream fun day is being held in honour of a brave two-year-old who is fighting a rare form of cancer. The fundraising event has been organised by friends of Dylan Duff, of Kilmarnock, who is being treated for Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. The youngster was diagnosed with the illness at the end of last year and is having chemotherapy treatment and an operation.
