Yorkshire waterways and rivers open up route to greener transport

There could be a reemergence for Yorkshire’s waterways and rivers as freight companies look for different ways to combat growing road congestion and traffic pollution. The waterways network is already being used to carry bio-mass fuel to “green” power stations but the new development could see millions of tonnes of goods transported by water. The new plan will dramatically reduce the amount of pollution that the lorry journeys currently create.

World-class college builders are praised

Matthew Timby, a world champion roofer, has found himself in the top spot again, along with 86 other prize winners. Matthew was the winner of the young roofers section of the International Federation of Roofing Contractors World Championships and was joined by other high achievers in the building industry for the Leeds College of Building’s annual awards ceremony.

Leeds charity trekker to spread grandfather’s ashes at 19,000ft

James Walker is preparing to scatter his grandfather’s ashes at a 19,000ft height. The charity trekker is going on his first charity expedition in order to raise money for people suffering with Alzheimer’s. The cause is close to his heart after his grandfather was diagnosed with the disease in 2009.

A City of Music

Music is alive and well in the city of Leeds with festivals, concert venues, shops and even its very own college for music. The Leeds College of Music has more than 1,000 full-time students and more than 1,000 part-time students. The college started life as Leeds Music Centre in 1965 and became the College of Music in 1971. Student Life

Leeds has been a city for students since the 19th century is still a popular place of study today. There are two universities in the city – the University of Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan University. The colleges of further and higher education include Leeds College of Art and Design, Leeds College of Music and Leeds College of Building. The city is home to more than 200,000 students in total.

Temple Newsam

Temple Newsam is a well-known landmark in the city of Leeds and earns its reputation due to the magnificent 18th century mansion and 1,500 acres containing gardens, parkland and farm. Harewood

Harewood House has many levels. It is a visitor attraction, a site of historical importance, home to the Queen’s cousin the Earl of Harewood and the Countess of Harewood, an important site for wildlife, a museum for art and a host to many public events. Among its titles are Enjoy England’s Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2009 and Yorkshire in Bloom Gold Award winner 2010.
