Leeds office workers save daredevil ducklings

Daredevil ducklings who wandered on to the Leeds city centre streets were rescued by some kind hearted office workers. The 10 ducklings made it to Neville Street after losing their mother and were spotted by recruitment consultant at Brewster McBride Natalie Poskitt who saw them on her way to work.

£4,000 raised for Cancer Research UK at Leeds Catwalk for Life

£4,000 was raised by Cancer Research UK by fundraising fashionistas in Leeds this month. Over 400 people attended the Catwalk for Life event that was held at the Corn Exchange. The models for the show included cancer sufferers and 40 professional models.

£40,000 gun collection arrives at Leeds Royal Armouries

A collection of valuable antique cowboy guns that are estimated to be worth around £40,000 have been given to the Royal Armouries in Leeds. The collection includes Winchester rifles and numerous pistols were given to the museum by the police after the Wild West enthusiast who owned them went to prison to serve a five-year jail term.

Leeds St George’s Crypt hold celebrity charity kickabout

Stars from the small screen are hoping to raise some cash with a seven-a-side match in aid of St George’s Crypt. Actors from Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Coronation Street are playing Garforth Town Football Club on the 3rd June to support the Leeds city centre homeless shelter.

Greener future for Yorkshire waterways and rivers

There could be a reemergence for Yorkshire’s waterways and rivers as freight companies look for different ways to combat growing road congestion and traffic pollution. The waterways network is already being used to carry bio-mass fuel to “green” power stations but the new development could see millions of tonnes of goods transported by water. The new plan will dramatically reduce the amount of pollution that the lorry journeys currently create.

College builders praised for world-class work

Matthew Timby, a world champion roofer, has found himself in the top spot again, along with 86 other prize winners. Matthew was the winner of the young roofers section of the International Federation of Roofing Contractors World Championships and was joined by other high achievers in the building industry for the Leeds College of Building’s annual awards ceremony.

Grandfather’s ashes spread at 19,000ft by Leeds charity trekker

James Walker is preparing to scatter his grandfather’s ashes at a 19,000ft height. The charity trekker is going on his first charity expedition in order to raise money for people suffering with Alzheimer’s. The cause is close to his heart after his grandfather was diagnosed with the disease in 2009.

A City of Music

Music is alive and well in the city of Leeds with festivals, concert venues, shops and even its very own college for music. The Leeds College of Music has more than 1,000 full-time students and more than 1,000 part-time students. The college started life as Leeds Music Centre in 1965 and became the College of Music in 1971. Jazz education was its main strength when it first began, and it still has a strong reputation for its jazz education today. …

Leeds has been a city for students since the 19th century is still a popular place of study today. There are two universities in the city – the University of Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan University. The colleges of further and higher education include Leeds College of Art and Design, Leeds College of Music and Leeds College of Building. The city is home to more than 200,000 students in total.
