Super dad Rob Greensmith has been named the UK’s most fantastic father.
Rob, 28, of Sileby, received the national Mother and Baby Magazine award after being nominated by his wife Laura, 28.
Laura put his name forward for the title after describing him as her “rock” through a difficult pregnancy, a cancer scare, a tough labour and post-natal depression.
She said: “I had a tough pregnancy with my high blood pressure being monitored constantly but he was my rock, even though he’d just started a new career in the police and had to live away during the week for training.
“Then, at 34 weeks, I discovered a lump in my breast.
“I had to have a biopsy and I kept imagining the worst but Rob was amazing, letting me cry, panic and then calming me down.”
Laura was given the all-clear days before she went into labour. The difficult labour lasted 36 hours, during which the couple received news that Rob’s father had died unexpectedly.
After the birth, Rob had no paternity leave and Laura began suffering from post-natal depression.
Rob said: “I had no idea I’d won when I went down to London and it was a brilliant surprise.
“They presented me with a heart-shaped glass trophy and I’m very happy to have won and it means a lot to Laura, too.”
Kathryn Blundell, editor of Mother and Baby magazine, said: “It’s a real honour to be able to reward people like Rob and acknowledge how truly special they are, especially as so many of them don’t see how incredible their achievements are.”
