A packed programme of family fun has been announced for this year’s free Riverside Festival.
The festival, in June, has a green theme this year and organisers have a list of events planned to entertain all ages.
Activities will take place along the River Soar at the Mile Straight, Western Boulevard and Bede Park over two days.
There will be live music, activities for children, a decorated boat competition, a boat rally, a floating tea shop, boat trips, workshops, arts market and more.
The green events will include Compost Mentis – a talking puppet compost heap, a scrap store challenge, mini beast hunt, swap shop, bird box making, carpentry, willow weaving workshops, and a grow your own vegetables workshop.
Other highlights will include stilt walkers, fire breathing, dancing, story telling, a bike ride, free bike mechanic classes, a mini cinema, a giant metal whale, a Bee Cart and more. The festival is organised by Leicester City Council and sponsored by local housing provider Riverside.
Cllr Piara Singh Clair, assistant city mayor for heritage, leisure and sport, said: “The Riverside Festival has proved to be a hugely popular event for visitors of all ages, and this year’s events look set to continue that theme of bringing family fun to the heart of the city.
“I’d encourage anyone who has not sampled this wonderful festival before to visit and see what’s on offer, as there’s sure to be something for everyone on offer.”
