Family tradition of fostering

A foster carer who has looked after more than 100 children is retiring, but her big hearted daughter is going to continue with her good work. Over the last 26 years, Pat Bailey has helped more 104 youngsters who need a home and support. Now, 72 year old Pat has decided to retire after recently having a knee replacement. Her daughter Jane is going to carry on her mother’s invaluable work.

Amelia Lily is new local ambassador

The X Factor finalist, Amelia Lily, has become the latest name to lend their support to the ‘Love Middlesbrough’ council-led campaign to promote the town. The young starlet has joined the ‘Ambassador Club’, a group of notable local people who are adding their weight to the initiative. Members who already signed up include comedian Patrick Monahan, opera singer Suzannah Clark and BBC presenter Steph McGovern.

No more school for Malcolm Wilkinson

A 30-year career has come to an end for Malcolm Wilkinson, Headmaster at the independent Teesside High School in Eaglescliff, near Middlesbrough. The Cambridge University graduate first joined the school’s history department in 1981 as a history teacher. His career at the school saw him become Head of the History Department before joining the Senior Leadership Team, taking over the reigns of Headmaster in early 2011.

New Sixth Form Centre at Middlesbrough College Receives £6.8 Million Funding

Middlesbrough College has been given £6.8 million to fund a new Sixth Form Centre, which will shortly be built for the college. The new building will provide placements for students and vacancies for teachers and other staff. The new centre will be completed in the 2012/2013 academic year, and will be a massive 138,000 square feet. The centre will be situated on Dock Street, opposite the existing college. Reindeer Run

In spite of the rain and chilly temperatures, fifty Middlesbrough residents gathered at Albert’s Park on December 11, to participate in the Zoe’s Place baby hospice’s first ever Reindeer Run. Zoe’s Place offers respite, palliative and end-of-life care to children who have life-limiting and terminal illnesses. They serve children from birth to age five. The run was a community event, created as a fundraiser for the hospice, which needs to raise £1m each year just to open its doors. Attendees …
