16 year old singing sensation Nick Celino is taking centre stage to sing with double-platinum selling trio The Soldiers when they appear at Newcastle City Hall When Nick heard that the trio were coming to Newcastle, he sent a demo tape of one of his performances to them. Bede Academy pupils dispatch hugs to Kenya
Pupils at Bede Academy in Blyth have been sending a little joy to Kenya. The crafty youngsters have made brightly coloured cuddly toys which have been sent to health clinics to attract mums who would normally shirk medical care. Project Hugs was started because of an idea from 11-year-old pupil Chloe Warnes whose mum Dawn runs the after school sewing club and is a learning support assistant at Bede Primary.

Song To Be Celebrated In Newcastle
Plans are being made to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the famous song The Blaydon Races. The song’s anniversary will be on June 9, 2012, and Newcastle City Council and Gateshead Council are planning a programme of celebrations to mark the date. Schools on both sides of the Tyne will be using the song by Geordie Ridley as part of an education programme that will explore the history, culture and music of Tyneside in 1862.
