Nick Celino set to serenade with The Soldiers

16 year old singing sensation Nick Celino is taking centre stage to sing with double-platinum selling trio The Soldiers when they appear at Newcastle City Hall When Nick heard that the trio were coming to Newcastle, he sent a demo tape of one of his performances to them. He impressed the band with his lyrics and was invited to perform with them on their Message To You UK tour.

Plans to sink the HMS Ark Royal warship and create a diving reef at the bottom of the English Channel have received a boost. The decommissioned Tyneside-built aircraft carrier was put up for sale and bidding has now closed.

Expat NUFC fan creates strip with difference

James Charnock, a Newcastle United supporter living in Mesaieed, Qatar has designed a Toon strip with a difference. After finding the 50 degree heat unbearable, the 40 year old teacher decided to adopt the native dress but still show off his Geordie roots. Bede Academy pupils dispatch hugs to Kenya

Pupils at Bede Academy in Blyth have been sending a little joy to Kenya. The crafty youngsters have made brightly coloured cuddly toys which have been sent to health clinics to attract mums who would normally shirk medical care. Project Hugs was started because of an idea from 11-year-old pupil Chloe Warnes whose mum Dawn runs the after school sewing club and is a learning support assistant at Bede Primary.

Song To Be Celebrated In Newcastle

Plans are being made to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the famous song The Blaydon Races. The song’s anniversary will be on June 9, 2012, and Newcastle City Council and Gateshead Council are planning a programme of celebrations to mark the date. Schools on both sides of the Tyne will be using the song by Geordie Ridley as part of an education programme that will explore the history, culture and music of Tyneside in 1862.
