£3.5m lottery win has not changed couple
A Northamptonshire lottery winner has said that winning the lottery doesn’t change your life, it just makes things a bit easier. Chris Bowers and his wife Susan won £3,497,114 in July 2011 after they bought a winning ticket from their local Sainsbury’s.

Millions of TV viewers will be able to see the work of disabled staff at a Northampton sign-making company as they direct Olympic cyclists at the London 2012 games. Nordis Signs, a specialist road sign manufacturer Nordis Signs have made almost 2,000 temporary road signs to direct cyclists who are taking part in the 250km Olympic road-race.

A charitable group from a Northampton-based builders’ merchant have scaled the Express Lift Tower for local charity The Lowdown. Staff from the Travis Perkins builders’ merchant joined workers from The Lowdown and other volunteers to abseil down the lift tower. They raised £13,000 for the charity.

The winners of Britain’s Got Talent Ashleigh and Pudsey have done Northamptonshire proud as the first ever dog act to win the competition. 17 year old Ashleigh and her dog beat the talent contest favourites Jonathan and Charlotte to be crowned the winners of the ITV reality show.

Dr Marie Dickie, who is a member of the Friends of Northampton Castle (FONC), believes that exposing the remains at the medieval site will create social and economic benefits to Northampton.

A Northampton-built steam roller has been returned to its former glory after being saved from a council depot nearly three years ago. Steam enthusiasts from the Northampton & Lamport Railway in Chapel Brampton salvaged the remains of the Allchin steam roller from Northampton Borough Council’s Westbridge depot in July 2009 and secured a £50,000 Lottery grant for its restoration.

A sports club for disabled people has set up a donation website after dozens of people wanted to help them when they had £10,000 worth of custom-built wheelchairs stolen. Wellingborough Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club set up a Paypal account after thieves stole 15 wheelchairs, basketballs and fluorescent bibs from a trailer at the Weavers Sports Centre between 9pm on Sunday, December 18th and 5.20pm on Monday, December 19th.

The fundraising appeal to help fund a new blood cancer treatment at Northampton General Hospital is over halfway to its target. The appeal, which was started by the Chronicle & Echo and Macmillan Cancer Support, is hoping to raise £1.55 million for the unit, which is scheduled in February.
