Oxford residents are being encouraged to get fit and learn at the same time.
Walks are being organised in an aim to provide an opportunity for people to exercise and find out more about their city’s heritage.
The project is being organised by the Oxford Health Walks team and the theme will be the history surrounding C.S. Lewis and Oxford.
The author of The Chronicles of Narnia lived in Oxford, and the walks will pass through areas that are linked to him such as parts of Headington, Quarry and Shotover Country Park.
The three-and-a-half-mile walks will stop off at some of the key sites and talk there will be talks about the famous author’s time in Oxford. Walkers will also be entertained with stories about his personal and professional life.
C.S. Lewis received a scholarship to University College in Oxford and was appointed Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University in 1925 where he remained until 1954. He lived in the city until his death in 1963.
Councillor Mark Lygo, board member for parks and sports, said: “Health walks are a great way of keeping fit and staying active.
“This one will be particularly great for C.S. Lewis enthusiasts as they will be able to learn more about the author while enjoying the sites of Headington and other parts of the city.”
The walks will start and finish in Bury Knowle Park. The play area of the park is being revamped and will include a Narnia theme when it is finished.
