Teenagers are being offered the chance to try coasteering, surfing, rock-climbing, gorge-walking and more in a free programme of summer events.
The Summer Challenge is being offered to 16 and 17-year-olds from the end of July until the end of August by Oxfordshire County Council.
The scheme is being organised as part of a national initiative called the National Citizen Service (NCS), which aims to promote the personal and social development of young people.
Ryan Johnson, NCS co-ordinator for Oxfordshire County Council, said: “The idea is to bring young people from different backgrounds together to meet new people, challenge themselves and try out new things, while giving them the opportunity to make a difference in their own communities and most importantly have fun.
“There are 105 places in Oxfordshire up for grabs. I would encourage people to sign up as soon as possible to avoid disappointment, it is a great initiative.”
Suleiman Ahmed, who took part in the programme last year, said: “I gained a lot from my NCS experience. I have made some friends for life and feel like a valuable member of my community.”
Another participant, Kiran Dhingra-Smith, added: “For my community project I taught basketball to local kids. It was great to give something back to my community.”
The programme will include a five-day residential trip, a laser gaming day, a high ropes day trip, arts, creative media, music performance and the opportunity to take part in community improvement projects. It will end with a joint graduation day and summer celebration.
