Centre revamp provides new youth gym

Young people now have their own dedicated gym thanks to the £4.1 million revamp of a Redhill leisure centre. The Donyngs Leisure Centre, was officially reopened at the end of October following its major refurbishment. One of the highlights of the new centre is the Youth Gym, which has been specifically designed for 11-15-year-olds. The facility includes high tech activities such as interactive dance mats and an audio visual system, as well as traditional exercise equipment tailored for young people.

Awards handed out

Volunteers and sporting champions have been awarded in two glittering ceremonies in the borough. The Procter & Gamble Surrey Youth Games (PGSYG) and Borough Sports Awards took place in the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill, to celebrate the achievements of sports people and clubs in the area. Awards were given out for success at both regional and national level. Theatre stages eco art awards

Young eco-friendly artists have been awarded for their work at a special ceremony. The Eco Art Awards were held at the Harlequin Theatre, in Redhill, to celebrate the talents of pupils from across the borough. Primary and infant school pupils had been invited to take part in the Eco Art competition, organised by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and Horley Town Council.

Staff thanked for providing water

Water company workers have been thanked for their years of service with a special lunch dedicated to them. Sutton and East Surrey Water held the thank you event for five men for their years of commitment to the company. The men were told their hard work and skills had ensured high quality tap water for generations of Surrey families and businesses. Tune Up! Band Night returns

Young musicians were given a second chance to perform on stage after the first live event was a big hit in the town. A second Tune Up! Band Night was held at Redhill’s Harlequin Theatre at the end of November after calls from young people to repeat the first Tune Up! Band Night earlier in the year. Over 200 people turned up to watch local youth bands show off their talent in the live evenings.
