Mela organisers have announced their line-up for this year’s festival and say they hope the event attracts people from all different cultures.
The Slough Mela 2012 is due to take place on June 17 at Upton Court Park and organisers hope the celebration will attract even more visitors than last year.
Bhangra legend Sukshinder Shinda has been announced as the headline act for the day and will take to the stage with his full live band.
Organiser Ray Siddique said: “Always what we try to do is provide a variety of acts targeting families.
“It is not just for Asian people, it is for everybody, we cannot emphasise that enough.
“It is a family fun day, we really don’t give two hoots what religion or race people are as long as they come and enjoy the mela with the family.”
Other acts that have been announced include belly dancer Dita, R & R Productions Bollywood Dancers, Club Caramel from Pakistan, traditional Asian dancer and singer Sona Walia, Bonafide, Luton rapper Raxstar, Hypnotize Crew, Navin Kundra, Nish, Kee, Gurinder Segal, Avina Shah, Gurcharan Mall and Bhajangy Group.
The day will also offer fire breathers, angle grinders, stilt walkers, stone-lifting demonstrations, a fun fair, stalls and food.
The mela originates from South Asia and stems from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘to meet’. The aim is to give families and communities a chance to get together to celebrate religious, cultural or artistic events.
Last year the Slough Mela attracted around 20,000 visitors.
