National award for university

Pioneering work at the University of Southampton has been recognised with a national award. The university’s Performance Sports Engineering Laboratory has won the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education for its innovation in design and testing.

A step closer to appeal target

Charity bosses say they are closer than ever to building a specialist cancer centre after the cost of building it was reduced. An appeal has been running in Southampton to raise £2.2m for a new blood treatment centre, but now the cost is expected to be £1.76m. The appeal has already raised £1m, meaning just £1.76m is needed to reach the target.

New city vision revealed

Trees, water features and priority for pedestrians and cyclists are part of a master plan for Southampton city centre. The major redevelopment vision has been unveiled by Southampton City Council and aims to transform the city over the next 25 years.
