Work of young artists leased to Southwark businesses in charity drive

Budding young artists can have their work exhibited and raise money for charity through a new scheme supporting youth projects. The Bermondsey-based marketing company Periscopix set up SE1ART to raise money for charities.  Bede House in Southwark Park Road and Downside Fisher Youth Club in Druid Street, both in Bermondsey, will benefit from the scheme.

Pheasants spotted in Lewisham park

Three pheasants have been spotted in Northbrook Park in Lewisham. The park’s three new feathered friends are one female and two male pheasants, which have been seen in the wildlife area of Northbrook Park in Baring Road, Lee.

Dust busting trial in Lewisham

A dust busting trial is being staged in Lewisham to see if pollution can be washed away. As part of a pollution-cutting experiment being run by City Hall, harmful dust particles are being stuck to the road surface.  The trial is being staged at a Lewisham industrial estate: a place where it is thought there are high levels of pollutants.

End of era for family florists business

A 111-year-old florists business based on a South London market has had to close due to high rents and the recession. Florist Christopher Tomkins, who started assisting on the CW Tomkins Florists Stall on East Street Market at the age of just 10, has sold his last flowers.
