Swansea youngsters act like royalty

Four budding young actors from Swansea have been given starring roles in a new production.
The talented youngsters will take centre stage in The King & I in March at the New Theatre.

The young actors who are from the Stagecoach Performing Arts School in Swansea include Kai Chilvers from Sketty, James Harvey from Penrice, Morgan Llywelyn Jones from Llanelli and Ted Drinkall from Carmarthenshire.

James said he was delighted to have been selected for the role, saying: “It’s so cool.  I had the DVD for Christmas and I watched it all day Boxing Day!”

Sue Harvey, James’s Mum said she was extremely pleased, saying: “I grew up in Cardiff and often appeared on that very same stage in the Cardiff Gang Show.  It will be very nostalgic for us as a family!”

Rehearsals begin at the end of the month at the New Theatre, under Paul Kerryson’s direction.

A spokesman for the production company said it would be “a lavish, grand-scale spectacle.”
