Student sings for the troops

Student Christina Lloyd has recorded a song for the troops after winning a college competition.

Christina, 20, from Torquay, was chosen as the winning song in a competition at South Devon College.

Her song Heroes’ Land has now been recorded and produced by fellow students from the college’s music department in an aim to raise money for Armed Forces charity Help for Heroes.

The song was chosen by panel of judges including Tony Bramwell, former assistant to Beatles manager Brian Epstein and former CEO of Apple Records; UK record producer Phil Harding; club promoter and Mixmag journalist Kirk Field and professional audio engineer and education manager at Plymouth’s Deep Blue Sound, Nick Trussler.

College music lecturer Pete Day said: “The students worked really hard to produce some very professional songs that really impressed the judges. We all really hope we can raise a lot of money for charity with what is a very good song.”

College principal Stephen Criddle added:  “It was a real pleasure to be asked to help judge our charity single, which really showcases our outstanding students here. It is beautifully written and performed with a very professional sound.

“We truly hope the whole region will support us as we attempt to raise funds for such a worthy cause.”

The single was launched on College Radio station VIBE FM by Christina at the end of January, and was available to download online.

The college has a close affiliation with Help for Heroes because one of its tutors, Colin Kirkman, recently returned from serving with the Royal Marines in Afghanistan.
