Teenagers needed for worthy fun

Teenagers are being urged to sign up for a summer of fun that will help improve their communities at the same time.

Torbay Council’s Youth Service is running its National Citizen’s Service (NCS) for the second year after the success of the project in 2011.

The NCS involves encouraging 16-year-olds to take part in projects in their local communities. It aims to bring together young people from different backgrounds to benefit and improve their local communities.

The council is looking for 60 volunteers to sign up for the scheme, which will be run during July, August and September.

Community and voluntary organisations are also being urged come forward with any projects they need help with.

Those taking part in the NCS will also be given a chance to take part in residential trips, outdoor activities and team building events.

Councillor Chris Lewis, executive lead for children, schools and families at Torbay Council, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for young people in Torbay to have some worthwhile fun.

“Not only can they help improve their local community, by getting involved in this scheme they can also gain new experiences, develop their social skills, make new friends and increase their confidence and self-esteem.

“It’s not just young people who should get involved – NCS could really benefit voluntary and community groups as well. I would encourage young people and groups from across Torbay to get in touch and find out if it’s right for them – they have nothing to lose.”
