Children of all ages have been enjoying a unique new play facility in Paignton.
The Geoplay Park, at Middle Green, has been opened to the public, although its official launch will not take place until June 2.
The new play park has been built by the Paignton Town Community Partnership and includes play equipment, water features, wooden life-size creatures from Paignton’s past and a storytelling chair.
It is split into four different areas: the toddler area, the junior area, the sand and water play area and the teen zone. Each area has also been designed to depict four time periods in Torbay’s history.
The toddler area includes a trilobite and swing over a wetpour sea, a seesaw, climbing hut, trampoline and spinner bowls. The junior area offers children plenty of fun on a giant climbing net, while the sand and water play area has a purpose built water channel for children to pump and dam water, digging equipment and tables for sand play. The teen zone has a zip wire, towers, play huts, a six-way swing, climbing logs and stilts, climbing trees and a life-size sabre tooth tiger.
The park cost around half a million pounds to build. The majority of the funding – was provided by the Big Lottery Community Spaces Grant Fund.
A free fun day will take place on June 2 to mark the official opening and will include musical workshops, a geo-parade, a marquee, fancy dress, storytelling, live music stalls and food and drink.
