Local Choir Celebrates Landmark Birthday

Choir 86, Torbay’s local choir, is celebrating its 25th birthday this year after a quarter of a century of sharing their voices with the town.

To celebrate, 60 past and present members of the Choir, along with their friends and family, got together at the Riviera Centre in Torquay to look back at the group’s past.

The guest list included 9 of the original members including Alison Cudmore who at 16 years old, suggested the name for the choir.

Doreen Perryman made cakes for the very first meeting in 1986 and she certainly hasn’t lost her touch, as she made the 25th birthday anniversary cake for the group.

The choir was formed in 1986 (hence its name) and is the result of two smaller choirs joining together. Teachers at Audley Park School managed to combine members of the school choir with members of Ron Thompson’s Choir from Torquay’s St Matthias church.
