Talent needed for band battle

Young musicians are being given a chance to shine with a new Battle of the Bands competition.

The new contest is being organised by Torbay Council for bands and solo artists under the age of 18 in the region.

Musicians are being urged to put their names forward for the event, which is due to take place in the summer in the Parkfield activity centre.

Parkfield opened in October 2011 and has an international BMX track and skate park, climbing wall, sports hall, DJ/recording studios, state of the art Apple Mac IT suite, training/meeting rooms and a café area.

Organisers of the competition are hoping to get experts from the area’s live music venues to act as judges for the event. Members of the public will also be asked to vote for their favourites.

Councillor Chris Lewis, executive lead for children, schools and families at Torbay Council, said: “Parkfield is such a great venue for bands and solo artists to come and showcase their material. It’s very early days at the moment and we just want to find out how much interest there is for an event like this before setting a date.

“It’s so important that we give young people the opportunity to be creative and show off their talents and a competition like this can really help them to do that.

“So if you are in a band or know someone who is then get in touch with Parkfield – it could lead to your first taste of stardom!”
