Wakefield chef Abdul Ghafoor is celebrating 15 years in the takeaway and diner business. Abdul launched his first takeaway on Broadway, Lupset in 1997 and his food has been popular ever since.
He uses a range of authentic Indian ingredients and delicious, inventive new dishes. In 2005 he expanded and opened Abdul’s Takeaway and Diner on Southgate, Pontefract.
Even in these difficult economic times, Abdul has managed to maintain a steady turnover thanks to his loyal customer base.
He was inspired to become a chef by his late mother Saira Begum.
He said: “When I started the business I was passionate about food. I took inspiration from my mum and learnt how to cook properly, using complementary flavours and spices.
“In time I built up a credible reputation and recognised the need for something which sits in-between a restaurant and takeaway. We have worked hard to build the business and to offer our customers a real taste of India.”
