Fans of Wakefield Wildcats rugby team were in for a shock when a former player proposed to his former Wildcat Doll girlfriend during half time.
Chris Hall popped the question to his partner Stephi Scaife in front of a crowd of 8,500 supporters at the Wildcats game against Warrington Wolves.
And she said yes!
The happy couple met 10 years ago when 29 year old Mr Hall was a player and 25 year old Miss Scaife was a dancer.
Mr Hall said: “I wanted to propose at the ground, as it is where we first met.
“It took a bit of organising and I was nervous, but we had lots of people congratulating us, even the Warrington fans.
“Although we met 10 years ago we have only really got together in the past year, but I felt that connection straight away.”
They were called to the pitch after an announcement saying that they had won a competition.
Miss Scaife told the announcer that she didn’t know what the prize was and that was when the microphone was passed to her partner and he got down on one knee.
Mr Hall recently had to undergo brain surgery after he was injured playing for Kippax Knights.
He has been signed off from his job as a landscape gardener for at least 12 months and Miss Scaife is caring for him.
Mr Hall added: “Stephi has been great and without her I do not think I could have got through everything.
“She was at my bedside in hospital all the time and we have been through a lot together.”
Miss Scaife has a four year old daughter, Trinity, from a previous relationship. They are planning to get married in 2014.
