Marsala & more…

Now that we’re officially into autumn the winter wardrobe is out with cosy boots, luscious layers, woolly jumpers and chunky scarves – and perhaps a couple of new pieces to see in a new season.  Some of the biggest trends for autumn/winter ’15 revolve around colour and texture. The unisex colour pallet includes dark shades of mustard, teal, khaki greens and muted pinks.

The emphasis is on mixing earthy neutrals with a range of bold colour statements and patterns. Red is also huge this year – any shade will do. The stand out shade, though, is ‘Marsala’. This rich red tone is omnipresent across the UK high street in clothing, accessories and even make-up. Need some inspiration? Take a look online – Pinterest is going potty for anything and everything Marsala.

When it comes to fabric luff and fur are huge this season. The must-have piece is a faux fur gilet – long or short, they are everywhere. For even colder days, grab yourself a fur hooded or big fluffy coat that not only keeps you super-warm, but also makes a fantastic fashion statement.

The ‘70s and ‘80s trends are still going strong this season – think big bold checks, colour block knits and floaty capes. Whilst showing a bit of skin is reportedly hot this season (but in actual fact rather chilly), layering is also huge, and seems a much more practical choice for the colder months.

And of course, as we get closer to the festive season, don’t forget that sparkling staple – glitter and sequins. These firm favourites return year after year, allowing us to brighten up our winter wardrobes and shine in something new at the office Christmas party.

So don’t mourn the packing away of your flip flops, or boxing up of your summer dresses – embrace the colder weather and enjoy a bit of AW15 retail therapy. Whatever your style, there’s something for everyone on the high street right now. Happy shopping!
