Strictly Come Dancing is back with a vengeance and gripping the nation with its glitz, glamour, tears and drama – what’s not to like!
Even if you are not an avid sequin wearer or a big fan of ballroom dancing, this show, with its feel good factor, certainly provides a lovely form of entertainment and escapism at the weekend.
Personally, I can’t watch the show without tapping my feet and singing my own version of the theme tune.
This year’s celebrity contestants, along with their professional dancers, are certainly stealing my heart already. I feel for Katie Piper, who appears sometimes a bit emotionally overwhelmed by the experience, whilst Joe Sugg is just so loveable and energetic I could watch him all day.
And of course, there’s the judges. My favourite has got to be Craig Revel Horwood. He pretends to be the baddie of the panel – in fact if it was a pantomime he would be getting chants of ‘boo’ and ‘hiss’ – but really, he’s a big softie.
What I really love about Strictly is how it has made ballroom dancing more popular again, amongst all generations. It has also helped make ballroom dancing and dancing in general more popular with boys, which is great. I mean with role models such as Aljaž Skorjanec, AJ Pritchard and Giovanni Pernice, you can’t go wrong.
It may all just look like a lot of fun but I certainly don’t think my fitness levels would be up to the training so hats off to all the dancers…
