Wellies or some new sunglasses?

Having gone out and bought new wellies and raincoat for the 10 years of constant rain we were predicted, we are now in the middle of a dangerous heatwave.

Not that I’m complaining or anything, but it is quite hard to keep up with all the conflicting weather forecasts these days.

A few weeks ago it was a picture of doom and gloom for the British summer again this year, and now we are told to expect soaring temperatures to continue through to August at least.

National newspapers have begun publishing lists of the best fans, best ice cream makers and so on.

The Independent reported how the Met Office has issued a level two heat alert due to the high temperatures, which are expected to beat records for the famous summer of 1976.

Jonathan Powell, a forecaster at Vantage Weather Services, told the Express newspaper: “There is not a shred of evidence it is going to end any time soon… The rest of July is showing a similar picture and now August looks like following suit, so we could be looking at another six weeks or more of this.

“In terms of historic heatwaves, this is now looking like giving 1976 a run for its money. There is no sign of it cooling down.”

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not giving the weather forecasters a hard time. I’m sure it’s fairly tricky to be 100% accurate all the time.

But while all this sunny weather sounds very nice, I don’t think I’ll go out and buy an air conditioning system for my home just yet!
