Bournemouth based swimming club the Spartans took to the water at Boscombe for a fancy dress dip on Christmas Day. The annual event saw dozens of brave souls head to the waters in a variety of fancy dress outfits including a wolf, a pirate, sailors, a unicorn, a princess, Dennis the Menace, Victorian swimmers and even some swimmers in Christmas outfits.
The Spartans Swimming Club was established in 1951 and the traditional Christmas event has been taking place for many years.
Chairman Dave O’Donnell said: “We swim every Sunday at 11am during the winter.
“Christmas Day is a special day and it’s traditional to come down on Christmas Day and the Mayor comes down to see us.”
Rizes were presented to those with the best fancy dress outfits by Mayor Cllr Chris Rochester before the swimmers braved the water.
Dave added: “A lot of people think we go in on Christmas Day only, but we encourage people to join the club and swim with us regularly.”
