Tram brings jobs

Scores of people are being recruited for new jobs after final permission was given for Nottingham’s new tram lines to be built. An initial 70 new jobs have been created after the government signed off the project to build two new tram lines to extend Nottingham’s tram network to Clifton via Wilford (Line Two) and Chilwell via Beeston (Line Three).

Pollen will float on new building

Floating pollen that changes colour with the wind will be part of a £25,000 sculpture on the top of a new centre. The piece of art is set to be created for the top of the new St Ann’s Valley Centre in Nottingham.

Volunteers to reopen museum

Nottingham’s Industrial Museum will reopen in March thanks to a group of volunteers. The attraction is due to open on March 17 and will be run by a group of over 90 volunteers. The project to reopen the museum has been run by Nottingham City Council and funded by the Adult and Community Learning Fund, the Skills Funding Agency and Arts Council England.

Students raise over £1.3m

University students raised more than £1.3 million pounds for charity during 2011. The money was raised by Karnival, the fundraising section of the University of Nottingham Students’ Union with a variety of events throughout the year. The final figure of £1,322,249 was announced at the end of the year to a crowd of 900 at Karnival’s annual Snowflake Ball.
