Pupil’s painting gets top spot

Talented school pupil Albie Barrigan has seen his work hung in the Mayor of London’s City Hall headquarters after it caught the eye of MP Rob Halfon.

The pupil of Passmores Academy, Harlow, did an oil on canvas painting of the London Eye during a recent work placement at the Children’s Support Centre in Harlow.

His artwork then caught the eye of Harlow MP Rob Halfon, who liked it so much he arranged for the 2m x 2.5m painting to be given pride of place at the London headquarters.

Mr Halfon said: “His painting clearly demonstrates an exceptional talent and I am delighted to have been able to arrange for his work of art to go on display at City Hall.

“It seemed such an appropriate place with the real, iconic London Eye featuring just along the South Bank.”

Annette Lidster, Albie’s tutor while he was at the Children’s Support Centre, said: “When Albie was with us we began to notice a real talent in the graffiti art he was doing to decorate the work he did.

“We were able to praise the pride he took in this skill and encourage him to have that same pride in other aspects of his work, and with his art teacher he was able to open his mind to other types of art forms.

“We are so very proud of Albie, as are his parents and family, and most importantly Albie is proud of himself and can now see himself as a successful artist.”
