Students Get A Ticket To Ride

A college is paying half of the train and bus fares for its students in an aim to make college life easier. Hertford Regional College, which has campuses in Broxbourne and Ware, launched the “We’ll Meet You Half Way” scheme for full time students travelling to college by bus or train. The offer is available to students who are not already receiving EMA or Bursaries.

Sisters Call For More Donors

People in Broxbourne are being urged to become bone marrow donors in a campaign launched by two sisters. Rebecca and Rachel Hall, aged 17 and 22, from Stanstead Abbotts, are running a campaign to get more blood stem cell and bone marrow donors.

Hoodie Poster Aims To Make Residents Feel Safe

A poster of young people wearing hoodie tops aims to make people in Broxbourne feel safer on the streets. The poster, by the Broxbourne Community Safety Partnership, shows a picture of four children in hooded tops and carries the slogan: “Don’t judge them by their dress sense!” It then has a bubble next to each youth, explaining what they do in their spare time. The bubbles read: “Trainee chef”; “Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award”; “Weekend volunteer at old folks’ home” …

The Broxbourne Borough Council youth website is a popular tool for young people in the region as it offers information on the council’s youth services and more. It is aimed at residents aged between 11 and 19.

Olympic Dry Run At Water Park

The Olympics came early to Broxbourne with a test event for the games taking place at the Lee Valley White Water Centre. The centre, in the Lee Valley Regional Park, shut for three weeks in July for the event.
