Oxfam Big Bra Hunt big success

Oxfam staff throughout Chester are celebrating after a successful hunt for bras. Manager of the Bridge Row Oxfam shop Andrew Wilkinson, said: “I would like to thank everyone in Chester who has supported the Big Bra Hunt. We have received over 250 bras – and they keep coming!”

£400 raised for cancer sufferers by Duddon St Peter’s

An admirable 10 year old swimmer from Clotton near Chester has raised more than £400 for cancer sufferers. Year 5 pupil Becky Scott-Davies who is a pupil at Duddon St Peter’s Primary School swam 64 lengths of Christleton Sports Centre’s pool.

Katherine Dewar, Diamond Jubilee emblem designer, big part of celebrations

We’re all looking forward to the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, but 11 year old Katherine Dewar from Chester is very excited for the month ahead. The pupil of Upton Heath Primary School is at the very centre of the celebrations after winning a national BBC Blue Peter competition to design the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee logo.

Top 50 in the UK for sustained improvement for Chester primary school

A Chester primary school is celebrating after its hard work and continued improvements in test results have landed them in the top 50 for SATs results. The JH Godwin school in Blacon received a letter from MP Nick Gibb, the Minister of State for Schools, praising them for the excellent SATs results that they achieved.

1,000 job vacancies at Chester Racecourse

There will be 1,000 job vacancies at Chester Racecourse for the upcoming 2012 racing season. The racecourse usually recruits about 750 casual staff from the local area to help with the season but this figure has increased due to the creation and launch the local betting company chesterBET.

High Wire attempted by Chester Town Crier

Chester’s town crier was invited by the Moscow State Circus to join the high flying troupe “The Alkhaovs Stalkins” on a wire 50 feet above the ground. Instead of his usual place in Chester’s High Cross, David Mitchell will be helping the circus promote their new show “Babushkin Sekret” in Chester.

Preperations for Chester’s Annual Raft Race

Scores of teams from across Cheshire are gearing up for the city’s annual Raft Race. 2011’s theme is “The good, the bad and the downright ugly”. Competitor’s raft ideas from the past have included the Batmobile, a horse and cart and even the Titanic!

Marriage Proposal at Chester Film Festival

During a screening of the Roman based epic “Gladiator” at Chester Amphitheatre, Frazer Mataitonga arranged for the words “I love you so much Victoria Reeves, will you marry me?” to be shown on the silver screen. Mataitonga completed a seven month tour of Afghanistan despite being injured by Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
