Art students in the spotlight

Art and Design students from Amersham & Wycombe College have been getting their five minutes of fame.

Fine art student Robyn Harker has landed a role in L’Oreal’s latest TV advertising campaign after being chosen from hundreds of hopefuls for the job, working with Cheryl Cole.

Fine art student Shelbey Joyce will also be in the spotlight when she jumps out of a plane to raise money for Help the Heroes.

Shelbey wanted to take part in the sponsored skydive after losing a family member recently.

She said: “I have never been scared of heights, until I did a Go Ape course around a year back. Although I will probably scare myself silly doing this, I want to try and show at least half the bravery and courage my cousin and so many other heroes show all the time in Afghanistan.”

She has also focused on the charity in her artwork, producing a large banner depicting flags from around the world, which will be shown at the Queens Park Art Centre in Aylesbury in April as part of its Embracing Britain Exhibition.

Another college student, Pat Andersz, held an exhibition of her printing work at the Queen’s park Art Centre in Aylesbury throughout March, The part-time student specialises in silkscreen, lino, etching and collographs.

Pat said: “I particularly love etching because it gives lovely crisp edges, and the effects you can create with certain liquids are quite amazing.”

College printmaking student Elizabeth Diggins has also been making a name for herself after being named a runner-up twice in the BBC’s Wildlife Artist of the Year competition.
