250th birthday of Margaret Catchpole Celebrated
The story of local legend Margaret Catchpole is still as popular in Suffolk as ever as we celebrate her 250th birthday. Events have been held throughout the area to commemorate the life of horse-thief and jail-breaker Margaret Catchpole who is said to have once rode bareback from Nacton to Ipswich in order to fetch a doctor for her seriously ill mistress.

Lifesaving work in Ipswich and Suffolk has been given a helping hand with thousands of pounds of Government cash. The Government grants have been awarded to Lighthouse Women’s Aid and the Ipswich and Suffolk Council for Racial Equality (ISCRE). The ISCRE received £386,400, which will be used to develop a buddy scheme. The scheme will involve training people who volunteer their time to listen to and support people who have been victims of racial or hate crimes.
