Waste crew make a top team

Garden waste collectors Carl Bilboe and Dave Hemming are celebrating after being named one of the top teams in the country.

The two men, who make up Wyre Forest District Council’s Waste Collection Crew, made it through to the finals of the Let’s Recycle Awards in the Crew of the Year category, which were held on May 1.

The pair have also been shortlisted in the Team of the Year category at the National Recycling Awards, to be held in London on July 3.

Jo Duffield, waste minimisation officer at Wyre Forest District Council, said: “We’re extremely proud of the service the Garden Waste Crew provide, the guys are helpful, friendly and caring toward their customers and do an excellent job.

“We’ve had numerous emails, letters, phone calls and even thank you cards praising the team.”

The council also sent out questionnaires after the first year of the garden waste collection service and received a very positive response. A total of 99% said they were happy with the level of service provided by crew.

Councillor Marcus Hart, the council’s cabinet member for environmental services, said: “The waste management team is a small and dedicated team and they have worked hard over the last couple of years to bring about efficiency savings as well as improve the service.

“This has included introducing wheelie bins for a larger range of recycling and changing to a four-day working week this month.

“We’re very proud they have been shortlisted for the award and thank all our residents for their cooperation with the new rubbish and recycling collections.”
