Schoolchildren have designed cycling havens and streets made of sweets after being asked how they would make their communities safer. Pupils in Perthshire were challenged to design the safer streets by transport charity Sustrans. The Free Range Kids campaign aimed to find out what it is like to see the world through a child’s eyes.

History is set to be brought back to life by hundreds of schoolchildren during a groundbreaking new project. Young people in Perth and Kinross will be taking part in the innovative project over the next two school years in an aim to bring them closer to their local history. The Living Communities program will work with around 1,800 pupils to bring historic stories to life using art forms.

A fairy, a clown, dancers and singers were among those drafted in to help mark the opening of a new look Perth High Street. The High Street improvement project was officially completed at the beginning of December and was celebrated with an opening ceremony. The work, which has cost around £1.8m, included repaving on the High Street and King Edward Street, new lighting and new trees planted.
