Young people are being given a chance to get on the airwaves with the launch of a new facility in their area.
Community radio station Envision Radio is planning to open an office in Royston and is looking for local people to take part in the new broadcast operation.
The station, which is based in Cambridge, wants to reach out to people in Royston and its surrounding villages with the new set-up.
Founder and director Fonz Chamberlain, 33, who is originally from Meldreth, said: “We have already started trying to reach out to people. We have visited some of the villages meeting people and making them aware of things we would like to do and things we have done in the past.
“A lot of people are not aware that community radio is available to them.
“We have already got a few young people from the villages to the west of Cambridge involved.
“We have a 14-year-old lad who talks about what is in the charts and another lad who does sport for the whole area and he goes out and speaks to football teams.
“They have been given training and things like that.”
Envision hopes to get more young people involved with radio and help to teach them new skills.
The station currently only broadcasts online but it is hoped it will eventually become available on digital and fm receivers and even local TV.
The station is currently in discussions with local councils in an aim to gain funding for the Royston office.
