Artistic pupil Hannah Ward has seen her artwork in print after winning a competition to design a logo for the town council.
Hannah, a pupil from Meridian School, Royston, won the Royston Town Council competition to design a logo for its 2012 Year of Celebrations. Her school was given a prize of £200 to buy sports equipment.
The two runners-up were Amber Sarter, from Roman Way First School, and Lewis Bray, from Roysia Middle School, whose schools will receive prizes of £50 each. All three winners were given framed certificates and Olympic mascot badges. Hannah was also given a framed copy of the first leaflet using her logo design. The logo will now provide the branding for the Royston 2012 Year of Celebrations.
The Year of Celebrations is seen as a way to celebrate the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and the Queen’s 60th Jubilee with a series of local activities and events. Celebrations will include a Party in the Park and a programme of sporting events.
The pupils were presented with their prizes at the town council’s May Fayre. Their work was also displayed all day at the Fayre, to allow visitors to see their talent.
Gary Abrams, managing director of Heasell Electromechanical Services and competition sponsor, presented the prizes along with Town Mayor Cllr Martin Beaver and MP Oliver Heald.
The May Fayre included music by local band Opus 17, a Punch and Judy show, circus workshops, a trapeze act and the annual Royston dog competition.
