Appeal for loose change

Residents are being urged to dig deep for loose change in a fundraising campaign by their local hospice. The St Clare Hospice is hoping to double its collection box total this year after collecting £2,000 in 2011.

Newspaper’s birthday is celebrated

Local newspaper The Herts & Essex Observer has celebrated its 150th birthday. The paper’s anniversary was marked with a party looking at its rich history. The first edition of the paper was on display during the evening, which was attended by about 80 dignitaries and local community leaders.

Tributes for popular landlord

Tributes have been pouring in for a popular pub landlord who has died at the age of 71. Dave Tucker, who ran The Three Willows, in Birchanger, died after a two-year battle with cancer. He was still welcoming customers into the pub just two weeks before he passed away.

Youngsters join campaign

Youngsters were asked to get out and about in their communities during half term as part of a Love Where You Live campaign. The campaign is being run by Essex County Council to encourage residents to pick up litter, plant trees and do conservation work in their communities.
